Ugh Tora annoyed my entire spirit!!!!
By Khrys
Please don't misunderstand where I am about to come from and assume that I dislike this author in any way. BUT this book was the most annoying thing I have read this week and I read up 10 books in a week. So to say this one is beyond annoying is saying a lot. First, I could not stand Nyomi aka Tora. For lack of a better way of saying it, she is stupid, an idiot, and utterly uncaring of anyone's feelings or opinions other than her own. Idk if the author was trying to portray her as strong but if so, she failed horribly. Nyomi had absolutely no care that her friend was continuously telling her that she was putting herself in danger by doing the things she was doing. She just didn't care as long as she could write her darn story. She was stupidly willing to put herself in situations that she knew nothing about just to write her story that her friend kept telling her if she kept digging around would get her killed and it went into one her dumb little ears and right out the other. I kind of liked Kenji's characyer because from the beginning, we were told he is a dangerous guy. Honestly, I don't really have more to say becaue my bad review is solely die to the female character and her outright disregard for anyone but herself. I would like to add that the rest of the story may have been better but since I couldn't make myself finish, I will never know. I only got 41% of the way through and then I just had to quit.

Could have been extraordinary...but a decent read.

I'm a big fan of Kenya Wright, and I love BWAM stories, but maybe this one just wasn't for me. I loved Kenji, and I wished for a much better heroine for him than he got in Nyomi. She was a lot of talk and no action, and her "maybe I will, maybe I won't...oh, I just can't help myself" mentality just didn't do it for me. On top of all that, we are supposed to believe that this is a woman who at SIXTEEN wrote a nationally bestselling nonfiction book, then spent the next five years (two of which she spent as an under aged minor) trotting the globe and interviewing terrorists, traffickers, etc. in war zones for her free lance articles...with no education or experience to back this up. A plot point about whether the letters Nyomi was receiving from her dad really came from him or not was never followed up on. I feel like this would have been better served if it was long enough to develop the characters (not just the main ones, either) and their relationship more, or even made into part one and part two rather than a standalone.

Disturbing
By Elena
I'm not really sure how to feel about this book. It was well written, but was lacking something for me. The premise was very interesting but I had a hard time connecting with the characters. Nyomi was a bit annoying and didn't know who she was. She wrote a book destroying her father and hated him essentially because he left. That doesn't masks sense She then turned into a danger seeking crazy person. Kenji was completely screwed up and was not fit to be a leader in the crime world. He was a rapey obsessed stalker who had a choking fetish.
