Drawing upon Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory and Ernesto Laclau’s approach to hegemonic politics, Solomon argues that prevailing discourses offer subtle but powerfully appealing opportunities for affective investment on the part of audiences.
Through empirical case studies of the affective resonances of the war on terror and the rise and fall of neoconservative influence in American foreign policy, Solomon offers a unique way to think about the politics of identity as the construction of “common sense” powerfully underpinned by affective investments. He provides both a fuller understanding of the emotional appeal of political rhetoric in general and, specifically, a provocative explanation of the reasons for the reception of particular U.S. foreign policy rhetoric that shifted Americans’ attitudes toward neoconservative foreign policy in the 1990s and shaped the post-9/11 “war on terror.”

A SPIRITUAL GIFT!

"Keys to the Spirit World" simplifies the process of communicating with your spirit guides, who are always there to help you navigate your path through the physical world.

This book helps you use all the spiritual tools and gifts you were born with, but most likely forgot. As a child, you may have heard your spirit guide(s) through your "inner ear," but blocked them out as you grew older and more conditioned by society's rules of what is reality and what isn't. This book is a breath of fresh air, saying "Yes, you can take guidance from your dreams, inner and outer voices, thoughts, and visualizations." Plus, O'Neill offers guidance on how to relax and allow communication with your spirit guides to happen. She even includes exercises to help you tear down the walls to spirit communication.

I especially liked the section on chakras and their correlation to spirit communications. O'Neill explains how chakras, our energetic centers, allow information to be received from the spiritual realm. She takes you one by one through the chakras, with special emphasis on the Heart Chakra, which is elevated and expanded through higher consciousness, the Throat Chakra, used for channeling information during spirit communications, and the Third Eye Chakra, which opens you to clairvoyance and clear seeing.
The author shares some of her own experiences as a child growing up with psychic abilities and the sensations she felt in these chakra areas before she understood their relationship to the spiritual realm.

Beyond Amazing

I got Jennifer's "Soul DNA" for free a few days ago. Wow! It was a right place, right time thing for me. Or, as I wrote to Jennifer, perhaps it was my spirit guides leading me to it.

My life has been difficult in several ways for about a year. I knew I needed changes, but was seriously stuck and not doing anything to cause changes to happen. After reading these two books and doing some of the exercises, I did connect with my spirit guides. I've always known they were there. I've witnessed too many of their interventions not to know how close they are. I've even tried to communicate with them before, but I think I wasn't really serious and was just goofing around when I tried. This time, I really NEEDED them, and they were there. They still are. It's an amazing feeling, and it's essentially changed my life.

I HIGHLY recommend both of these books. If you're already a believer, You'll love how easy Jennifer makes it for you. If you're a non-believer, or on the fence, give it a try. It can't hurt you, and what you might gain could be amazing.

Intelligent, succinct and without propoganda

I was very pleasantly surprised by this book, which is the first time I have read anything by O'Neill. Her writing is very easy to understand and she puts on no airs with the information she conveys. Though this is a quick read (1073 locations according to my iPhone) there is no wasted space within. Every line is chock full of important information and whether you are an old hand at this or just getting your hands wet with communicating with your spirit guides, this short book will prove a happy addition to your library.

In particular, I quite appreciated that the pages of this book were free of underlying propaganda meant (whether intentional or not) to influence readers towards certain beliefs or contrarily, defame against certain beliefs. Other than assuming that you are probably picking up this book because you believe there is someone/something out there - the creator, angels, loved ones or guides - watching over you, what your core beliefs are is a non-issue within the pages of this book. The author simply provides you with tools - specific meditations and complimentary activities that have been effective for her and her students, and then both descriptions of and advices for overcoming the most common "blocks" that prevent practitioners from achieving a desired outcome.

Lastly, she proves she is a teacher to the very heart of her, and concludes her instruction by offering that readers not hesitate to contact her should they have questions or run into problems as they work on the material she has provided them. Highly recommended.

a very interesting look on common and uncommon words!

I won this in an Amazon give away a couple of weeks ago. It just now came in the mail. Lets start with saying I love love love ❤ books, novels the written word in general and this book not being a novel or a story in any way is still interesting. It's helpful to the extent of giving you in alphabetical order words that people use every day and giving you the definition of what each word means to the author. For example: Etching- an event that one remembers well... An indelible memory pg 42... There's obviously other definitions of this word but this is how the author perceived it and it helps a person broaden their perception of how the word can be used. Like I said this book is very interesting and very useful. Even if I didn't win it, I would still invest a few bucks to buy it just because I like reading and I like learning what other people think and perceive what they think words mean... Alittle short there's only 170 pgs and on the last letters y and z there's not that many words, I think y- only had one word under it.. But thank you guys for letting me have the opportunity to win this book and I can't wait to see more from this author!!! If you need any one to win some more books,I'll be glad to help, and even more happy to read them!

Ms Will did an excellent job of keeping it from being a boring exercise, but it would be better as Whispersync.

An Uncommon(ly clear) Vocabulary book

For those of us with a copious vocabulary, we often run into a problem unique to our ilk. That problem is those with a more common vocabulary asking the question: :"What does that 5$ word you just used mean?"

The problem is, more than many people, we are aware of the fundamental truth of the phrase "Words mean things." By virtue of those we occasionally run into problems trying to explain the subtler nuances of a word and why you would use it in place of another, and how certain things are not, in fact, redundant. My favorite example phrase segment being "A Veritable Plethora"

Veritable has no distinct meaning on it's own, except to enhance the meaning of a word it is attached to. This is particularly challenging because this word lacks actual meaning, but merely serves as an enhancer to other words meanings.

Plethora means "So much of a thing as to be 'too much'". It is not merely a lot, or a great number of things,it is in fact very specifically "Much Too Much".

Therefor a veritable plethora is a "Much Too Much Too Much!" of a thing.. Good or bad.

An Uncommon Vocabulary assists in solving this problem by breaking down the words inside into example phrases or even describing the concepts behind words that make them distinct from others that are commonly used as 'close enough'.

This is an incredibly interesting and useful text that is also fun to read, the sheer appropriateness of some of his examples had me laughing!

A definite must for the person who has English as a second language, or who, like me, is a logophile or glossophile.

After the tragic events at the end of Dark Eyes, Wally is now emancipated, living on her own and working for the Ursula Society -- an organization that helps people find missing loved ones. Though Wally is only allowed to work on updating the files, she can't help herself when Kyle, a troubled and obviously abused young man, comes into the center. She is drawn to him, and since her search for her brother, Tiger, has turned up no new leads, she needs a distraction.

But there are people after Kyle -- dangerous people -- and by agreeing to help him, Wally's opened herself up to even more danger, and this time, she may not get out alive.

I loved Wally in the first book. She's strong, determined, and even though her curiosity leads her into danger, I loved her impulsiveness. That Wally is still here, but there were things that happened in this book that left me scratching my head a bit. Red flags popped up early in the book, and she seemed oblivious to them. I couldn't help but wonder why, after everything she went through in the first book, these dangers weren't blatantly obvious to her.

I also wanted more Tiger. It was nice to learn more about him, but I felt like he wasn't in the book as much as I would have liked. I mean the book is named Tiger after all. I thought it would primarily be his story.

The action is just as fast-paced as in the first book, and despite my character expectations, the story was great. I read this in a day -- I couldn't put it down. My only complaint was the abrupt cliffhanger ending. The first book ended so nicely with a hint of hope, but this one is like a hit and run.

Despite a few minor flaws, I really enjoyed this book. This series is a nice change of pace for someone looking for an action-packed story that will leave you breathless.

Not a technical "How To" book...

I am just getting into reloading and was expecting some helpful information for reloading from this book. It is not a "how to" book in any way. After being disappointed in the bulk of the book, where I thought there would be reloading procedures and guidance, I thought there would at least be a redeeming portion in the back in the section showing loads. But the "loads" are not really loads at all! It just shows different lengths of barrels and what specific weight and types of bullets the author got to shoot accurately from that barrel. But it doesn't tell you what kind of powders he used or what amount. Not at all what I was looking for in a reloading book. **What this book does, is talk about the authors years of reloading experience. both failures and successes, and it also gives a lot of history regarding reloading, and different cartridges.

Great book for beginnesr wanting to know the basics of ballistics. Don't expect a step-by-step reloading lesson.
