Decent for babies

I bought this book for my 6 month old son. It is decent for him but once he gets a bit older it will be too simple. Each page contains one or two word in French with the English also. Wished they had more than just words...maybe a sentence to use the words in context. Not a great learning tool, more of a novelty.

About the Author
Gordon Hooper's Biography Gordon L Hooper was born on August 25, 1927, in a two room adobe house, in Lovington, New Mexico. His parents, Marven and Emma (Love) Hooper were the children of homesteaders who settled land in northeastern Lea County, New Mexico in the early 1900's. When Gordon was 14 months old, his father hired out to be a ranch foreman for "Uncle" John Scharbauer and Millard Eidson, and on October 1, 1930 they moved Marven's family to their 50 section ranch at Judkins, Texas in southwest Ector County. In the summer of 1937, Gordon's father established his own business "Hooper's Clay", and the family of four including a baby girl (Marvelee) moved to Goldsmith, Texas. In the summer of 1943, the family of five which now had a 2nd son (Sammy) moved to Kermit, Texas for one year. In 1944, Gordon's family moved back to the Scharbauer and Eidson ranch at Judkins, Texas. Gordon was 15 years old and was a sophomore at Odessa High. When school began in the fall of that year, Gordon didn't know it, but from that time forward his education would be twofold. When a "ranch kid" gets home from school, he changes his clothes and helps with the ranch chores which include Saturdays and Sundays. After Gordon graduated from Odessa High in 1947, he worked full time on the ranch for two years. The work included breaking young horses raised on the ranch; during the hard winters he was responsible for feeding the cattle using a team of mules to pull the wagon filled with feed. The Hooper family moved to Crane County, Texas in 1949 and established the Ranch House Grocery on Highway 1233. Gordon married Nita Rhodes on March 17, 1950 and to this union was born four children; Danny, Steve, Judy, and Paul. During the Korean War, Gordon served in the United States Air Force located at the Amarillo Air Force Base. He was an instructor of jet mechanics on the B-47 Bomber. Gordon did an excellent job of doing what he set out to do: show Crane County residents the ranching life and ranchers before the oil boom. He did excellent research and advanced the knowledge of early Crane a great deal.

Great Word by Word Picture Dictionary!

I teach an ESL class to immigrants and use this book constantly. My students like this book becuz of the pictures, conversation ideas at the bottom and translations in several languages. Exactly what it promises: a new view.

According to Lionel Abel, classic tragedy died with Macbeth, and a new kind of pseudo-tragedy rose with Hamlet. Since "pseudo-tragedy" is a mouthful and Abel is a contemporary of those critics whose life's work, it would seem, was to add "meta-" to everything, Abel decided to call this new kind of drama "metatheatre." What is metatheatre? Simply put, it's the conversion of the tragic (anti-) hero's firm belief in forces outside his control-- the gods in Sophocles, or the Weird Sisters (Abel's take on them: a corrpution of the Three Furies, a view I suspect myself) in Macbeth-- to the (anti-) hero's less firm belief in the motives of humanity, and more importantly, the (anti-) hero's ability to put on an act in order to deceive the other players. The layers of an onion-- the actor acting a part to the audience, and acting a different part to the other actors.
Hamlet, according to Abel, was the turning point. It not only contained this mechanism-- given free rein by letting the other actors in the play think Hamlet was mad, leaving Hamlet to essentially do what he liked-- but was also metaphorized by the play-within-a-play Hamlet stages to uncover the treachery of his stepfather. If you believe Abel, Hamlet is, simply, the finest drama in the history of the form, and I'm not inclined to disagree. After this explication (a lucid and interesting one-- unlike many) of Hamlet, Abel whirls us through the next three hundred odd years of paywriting, giving us examples of metatheatrical works which have been mislabeled as tragedy down through the ages, both in drama and fiction (he specifically contrasts Don Quixote with El Cid in one essay), and makes a strong case for metatheatre as a valid genre on the stage.
Unlike most works of theatrical criticism-- I'm not a big stage fan, so I find most of it way above my head-- Abel's little work is readable, understandable, and finishable by the average joe on the street with more than an eighth-grade education. It may even lead more people to want to experience the theatre (at least, as long as it stays away from musicals). A fine little achievement that I hope is still in print.

You are in for a treat. This was my first opportunity to read a book written by C. J. Thomas. I was asked if I would like to read this book for an honest review, so I said sure. I had no idea what the book was even going to be about, but I love to read so I gave it a try. Now that I am finished, I am not only doing a happy dance that I received this book, but I am now anxiously waiting for the next book to come out.
Kami has left her comfort zone of St Paul, Minnesota. After her boyfriend Mark, tells her that it is over… to be out of the apartment before he gets home from work the next day, Kami sets her sights on a new beginning in Los Angeles, California. Working as a bartender she meets Wesley Reid.
Wesley Reid is every woman’s fantasy. There is definite chemistry between them. One problem. Wesley is a womanizing player. He is rich, successful, and maybe he is involved with someone else. That is where I am going to stop. You are going to have to get this book to see just how far Kami and Wes are going to go.
Ms. Thomas’s writing style is exciting, hot, and fast paced. I really enjoyed this story and can’t wait to read Vol. 2 of Beyond Tonight.

You are in for a treat. This was my first opportunity to read a book written by C. J. Thomas. I had no idea what the book was even going to be about, but I love to read so I gave it a try. I really enjoyed reading the book. It kept me on my toes with every page I turned. The characters Kami and Wesley were very sexy and attracted to each other.
